WiFi calling settings in Realme | How to enable VoWiFi

Here we have explained how to enable VoWiFi calling in Realme devices. You can do it from WiFi calling settings in Realme phones.

If you are having low signal issues in your area and using WiFi to connect your smartphone to the internet then the WiFi calling feature can be helpful to you. You need to enable the WiFi calling feature to use as by default it is found off.

WiFi calling feature was introduced in Jan 2020 in Realme smartphones but it was not that popular at that time. But nowadays more and more people want to use the WiFi calling feature in Realme devices.

I must tell you that all Realme smartphones have got VoWiFi feature through OTA updates and you can enable it from the WiFi calling settings in any Realme smartphone.

I have tested VoWiFi calling feature in Realme’s first smartphone Realme 1, Realme XT, and other recently launched smartphones and found that it is working perfectly on every model.

What is WiFi calling

WiFi calling is a type of voice or video calling over the WiFi network. If you are having poor network connectivity in your smartphone at your home or office but your phone is connected to a WiFi network then you can make and receive calls over the WiFi network.

You can even make calls when there is no network in your SIM card but your smartphone is connected to the internet through a WiFi network. This feature is really great where there is no network connectivity or poor network connectivity.

VoWiFi (Voice Over WiFi) is a supportive technology to VoLTE (Voice over LTE) that uses IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) technology to provide packet voice services delivered over IP via a Wi-Fi network.

When required VoWiFi calls can be handed over to VoLTE and vice versa. If you receive a call over VoWiFi when you are connected to the WiFi network and move then move away from the WiFi network range then your call will be continued through VoLTE services.

How to enable the VoWiFi feature in Realme

VoWiFi is nothing other than WiFi calling. If you have enabled the WiFi calling in your Realme smartphone and started using your calling facilities over the Wi-Fi then you are already using the VoWiFi feature in your Realme device.

If you have enabled the VoWiFi feature in your Realme mobile and are still unable to use the feature then you should check if you are connected to a high-speed WiFi and Wi-Fi calling preferred option is selected in the Calling preferences.

WiFi Calling not working in Realme

If you have already enabled the WiFi calling feature in your Realme device but it is still not working and your calls are received through a SIM card network or VoLTE then you can check the following things.

Check for WiFi calling preferred option

If you have enabled the WiFi calling feature in your Realme device then you will find two options to select between. If you choose the Cellular calling preferred then most of your calls will be connected through the VoLTE until your phone has no network coverage.

But if you have selected the Wi-Fi calling preferred then most of your calls will use the WiFi calling feature. So don’t forget to choose the WiFi calling preferred option in WiFi calling preference.

Make sure you have a WiFi calling selected icon visible on the status bar of your Realme phone. You can see the image given below to check how the WiFi calling enabled feature icon looks.

The quality of calls over WiFi calling will totally depend on the speed of your WiFi network and the number of devices connected to the WiFi at the same time.

As of now Jio and Airtel support the WiFi calling feature in India. I have tried to use the WiFi calling feature using my BSNL SIM but it was not working.

So make sure you are using a Jio or Airtel SIM to use the WiFi calling feature in your Realme phone otherwise this feature may not work on VI and BSNL SIM cards.

FAQs

Which network operator supports WiFi calling?

Jio and Airtel completely support WiFi calling feature across India but VI (Vodafone Idea) support WiFi calling in some parts of India.

On the other hand, BSNL is lagging behind and doesn’t support native WiFi calling features in Android phones. You need to download and install the third-party app to use BSNL WINGS which is similar to WiFi calling in other smartphones.

Should I have a valid tariff plan to use WiFi calling?

Yes, you should have a valid tariff plan to use the WiFi calling also. You can’t make or even receive a single call using WiFi calling if you don’t have a valid plan activated on your SIM card.

So make sure you have a valid tariff plan in your SIM card to receive the calls on WiFi or through VoLTE.

Is WiFi calling better than VoLTE?

Yes, WiFi calling is much better than VoLTE if you have a sufficient WiFi network because VoLTE uses high radiation as compared to WiFi callings.

We always recommend our readers use WiFi calling over VoLTE calling as you will get the best calling experience as well as WiFi calling uses less radiation than VoLTE.

What are the disadvantages of WiFi calling?

WiFi calling has some disadvantages too as it is a relatively new technology and it is still evolving.

You should have a valid tariff plan in your SIM card inserted in your phone as well as a working WiFi connection so you have to pay for two things separately. So WiFi calling may be costlier than normal VoLTE calls.

WiFi signals are limited to a location and you will not get good signal strength when you are moving away from your WiFi network. And you call will be disconnected if you move away from the WiFi network.
